Meet the Band

What does the band’s name mean?

The Roxy Theater in Cleveland 1950s
The Roxy Theater circa 1950s

The Roxy Theater was a famous (some might say notorious) burlesque house on the famed Short Vincent Avenue, the hub of Cleveland’s nightlife and jazz scene in the 30s, 40s and 50s. Short Vincent was the place where lawyers, politicians and everyday citizens mingled with gangsters, gamblers, showgirls and celebrities. Strip clubs in the “red light” districts in those days always had live musicians and many great jazz players got their start playing for “girlie shows.” We like to think that Red Light Roxy embodies the spirit and energy of Short Vincent in its heyday (minus the nudity and mafiosos).
